Tips (General for Better Hair Care) 1. Most people look for the
best shampoo, conditioner, styling product, etc. for better hair. The best
tip here is first eat a high protein diet, take Hair Formula 37, and "build"
great hair from the inside out. 2. Use a shampoo with
a pH level of 4.5 to 5.5. Our advice is to purchase one that is not for dry, oily,
permed, fine, etc. hair, but rather one that cleans. The purpose of shampoo
is to clean the hair, not condition. It should prepare the hair for conditioners
better suited for your hair type. 3. After speaking personally with
Jheri Redding (now deceased), he told me the single most important thing
the hair needs is acidification. This means using a product with a very
low pH 3.0-3.5. Acidifiers have several unique qualities. First they compact the
cuticle layer, which will help reflect light, which in turn gives your hair more
shine. Secondly, it adds a positive electrical charge to the hair which strengthens
hydrogen bonds which add elasticity (spring/bounce/body). Thirdly, it make it
easier to clean your hair. When the cuticle is compacted, styling products only
adhere to the outside portion of the cuticle, so it rinses off easily. Fourthly,
it prevents cuticle damage and detangles the hair. 4. Another important
tip is to add essential fatty acids to the ends of your hair.
Hair normally receives natural oil from the scalp and neck. It is called sebum.
Once the hair shaft doesn't make contact with the scalp it no longer receives
the sebum. Many people that have thing they have "dry hair" do not.
Dry hair is a lack of moisture not fatty acids. To replace lost essential fatty
acids is very easy to do. Simply purchase safflower oil (the kind you cook with)
(it is very high in essential fatty acids and about 33% vitamin E). Take a drop
or two, rub it into your hands, and work it in to the ENDS of your hair. Apply
when your is dry not wet or damp. Remember, a little goes a long way!It will take
away the brittleness of the hair. I repeat a drop or two. 5.Use a good
moisturizer with a built-in sunscreen. 6. Don't chose a shampoo or conditioner
because of the fragrance. I can not tell you how many times I have seen a client
open the bottle, smell it, and say, "Smells great....I'll buy it." Fragrance
does nothing for your hair. By a shampoo or conditioner because it works good,
not because it smells good. 7. Prevent damage to hair rather than trying
to fix it. We get emails daily with concerns because a chemical was applied to
the hair and now it is breaking. If they had done tip #1 above....it probably
wouldn't have broken. If you use heat on your hair, use a thermal protector.
8. Have a professional colorist do your hair. Here is a simple test to see
if you should even attempt coloring your own hair. If you know all the answers...go
for it...if not, see a stylist. A- What is "your underlying pigment"?
B- What color cancels out green? C- Which color molecule in hair color is
the smallest? D- What base color cancels reddish tones? E- What colors
make all hair color? hint: there are 3 colors (answers at the bottom of
page) 9. Never brush wet hair. Use a wide toothed comb. Brush hair
only when it is dry. 10. When blow drying hair, try to stop before the
hair is completely dry. Stop when the hair is almost dry. |
